Seseh Beach: First Impression of Bali, Indonesia
I arrived at the airport in Denpasar, Bali, and eagerly waited to hear from my friend Sunny. His dad lives in Bali, and he had beaten me to the country by a few days. Having never been to Asia, I was completely lost, but very excited.
Seseh Beach is idyllic. It’s a small, breezy, volcanic beach, covered in black sand, and lined with charming villas. Russell’s villa is within walking distance to the coast, hidden down an unmarked, cobblestone driveway.
The blueprints: From what I can recall, Sunny and I originally discussed flying to Flores Island, then taking the Pelni (a cargo ship) back to Bali, ferrying from Gilimanuk to Java, and from Java sailing off into the sunset— or something like that.
Of course, things didn’t go exactly as planned.
The Pelni
Crowded,
The Southern Cross
When you see the Southern Cross
For the first time
You understand now why you came this way
Cause the truth you might be running from is so small
But it’s as big as the promise
The promise of a coming day
Crosby, Stills & Nash wrote The Southern Cross, a song about love, loss, and the insignificance of our troubles in comparison to the universe. It’s named after this constellation — The Southern Cross — which is only visible from the southern hemisphere.
